Engaged in humanitarian action and development in Africa and Asia since 1984. Worked as an independent consultant from 1996, focusing initially on designing development projects and providing M&E training and subsequently leading independent reviews and evaluations.
Have to date now led or been a member of 60 evaluations for a wide range of clients, covering a broad range of programme areas. Well regarded internationally. Led the first real time evaluation of an international response for UN Headquarters, the Inter-Agency Real Time Evaluation of the International Humanitarian Response to the Crisis in Darfur, 2005-2006. Recognised for good evaluation practice – an evaluation of WFP’s food assistance and support for repatriation of Iraqi and Afghan refugees in Iran was included as a best practice example in Evaluating humanitarian action using the OECD-DAC criteria: An ALNAP guide for humanitarian agencies, 2006. Currently engaged in an evaluation of protection in humanitarian action for DFAT.
