DEEP VZN MEL Coordinator

The USAID Discovery & Exploration of Emerging Pathogens – Viral Zoonoses, or DEEP VZN, is a five year project that will build scientific capacity in partner countries to safely detect and characterize unknown viruses which have the potential to spill over from wildlife and domestic animals to human populations. With up to 12 countries, the project will carry out large-scale animal surveillance programs focusing on finding previously unknown pathogens from three viral families that have a large potential for viral spillover from animals to humans: coronaviruses, the family that includes SARS-CoV-2 the virus that causes COVID-19; filoviruses, such as the Ebola virus; and paramyxoviruses which includes the viruses that cause measles and Nipah.

Washington State University (WSU) is seeking a Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator that will be responsible for coordination of MEL activities at the headquarters level and across all DEEP VZN countries and will serve as the primary point of contact at WSU with USAID’s M&E advisors. In partnership with the DEEP VZN MEL Technical Lead and other MEL advisors across the project, the MEL Coordinator will ensure the DEEP VZN MEL Plan is successfully operationalized. Responsibilities will include training of project staff and partners on MEL concepts, systems, processes and tools; ensuring ongoing data collection and other MEL processes are conducted in accordance with the project MEL Plan and adhere to USAID guidance; and compiling, analyzing and preparing MEL data and information from across the project for reporting to inform project decisions and for donor reporting to USAID. The MEL Coordinator will also have responsibility for managing and updating the MEL data management systems and tools with advice and support from MEL Lead. This position will report to the DEEP VZN Deputy Project Director and will collaborate closely with the MEL Technical Lead and other MEL advisors for the project.

This position will be primarily based at our WSUPullman Campus; however, remote/hybrid opportunities may be available and can be discussed during the interview process.
